About
Total Together is a movement dedicated to transforming the lives of LGBTQ+ elders across the globe. We are a flagship program of I Reach Out My Hand Africa, with registration number MA0001343/2018. We explicitly work on the belief that no one should grow old without safety, dignity, or a place to belong.
Many LGBTQ+ elders face rejection from family, exclusion from mainstream elder care and mistreatment within healthcare systems. We currently operate from a rented facility that offers our beneficiaries a secure, affirming home, alongside access to basic clinic services, while we work toward securing a permanent, purpose built residence.
Safety, for us, goes beyond a roof and a bed. Total Together also documents cases of discrimination against LGBTQ+ persons, provides referrals to safe, LGBTQ+ friendly legal practitioners and legal aid organizations and supports beneficiaries in navigating legal processes to ensure their human rights are recognized and protected.
Through outreach, counselling, community development and advocacy, we work to disarm prejudice and prove what our name promises that we are stronger, safer and total and together.
Activities
Total Together is the ultimate destination for LGBTQ elder services. Our comprehensive range of services includes safe accommodation, healthcare, counseling, legal advice, advocacy and referral services for the elderly who are already in existing facilities and are lonely. We are committed to providing supportive, affirming, safe and inclusive services to our LGBTQ+ elders.
December 2023 Birthday Celebration
The best way to truly learn about the lives of elders is by visiting them and engaging in conversation. Throughout 2022 and 2024, this approach has proven to be both rewarding and effective. Some of the elders we encountered are not from the local community, yet they provide valuable insights into the gaps in long-term care and other.

Call to Action
One Step at a Time
To gain a deeper understanding of the needs of LGBTQ+ elders from both high-end and low-end communities, we conducting face-to-face interviews and have also created an online form for them to share their general information and needs. This data will assist us developing programs that are specifically tailored to their requirements. If you are 40 years old or older, we invite you to participate in survey, which will only take about 4 minutes complete.
