Programs

Total Together was founded in 2021. Our mission is to address existing gaps within the LGBTQ+ community, particularly focusing on the elderly. While various support services are already in place, there is a notable absence of age-appropriate service packages. As a result, we established this global movement aimed at creating a safe space for elderly individuals in the LGBTQ+ community. Total Together is a flagship program of I Reach Out My Hand Africa.

Accommodating our elders is an ongoing need as more LGBTQ+ elders come forward or are identified, our capacity to house and care for them must grow with them. Alongside this, our outreach program works to reach older LGBTQ+ persons in hard-to-reach spaces, many of whom are secluded, isolated, and left out of mainstream elder support systems, to ensure no one is forgotten.

We also recognize that safety extends beyond shelter. Total Together documents cases of discrimination against LGBTQ+ persons, provides referrals to safe, LGBTQ+ friendly legal practitioners and legal aid organizations, and supports beneficiaries in navigating legal processes to ensure their rights are protected.
